A FEW GOOD MEN & WOMEN

Why does Jersey Mike's franchise?
WHY DOES JERSEY MIKE’S FRANCHISE?

We began franchising simply because so many people that visited the original Jersey Mike’s at the Jersey Shore told us they wished they had a Jersey Mike’s where they lived. As it turns out, in addition to providing new communities with a delicious, sub sandwich, our business model gives people the opportunity to realize their dream of business ownership and making a big difference in their lives and the lives of others. It gives more people the opportunity to be an employer and positively affect other lives and families. And finally, it gives owners the chance to make a difference in the community by helping local causes. Our owners get to run their own business, and at the same time, be a part of a larger cause.

Ideal Operator Profile
WHY JERSEY MIKE’S COMMITS TO AN “IDEAL OPERATOR” PROFILE?

We’ll be the first to tell you, owning a Jersey Mike’s isn’t for everyone. But we do think it is an amazing opportunity for the right individuals. The restaurant business has its own set of challenges. Dealing with the public, serving food, handling peak traffic times and being a welcoming host can be exciting and enjoyable to some while harrowing and arduous to others. That’s why we want only the right candidates to help us grow our brand. It all happens on the store level at Jersey Mike’s, and our experience tells us that the right operator is absolutely imperative to running a successful and profitable business. Do you have what it takes to be a Jersey Mike’s franchisee?

Who is the ideal Jersey Mike's operator?
SO WHO IS THE IDEAL JERSEY MIKE’S OPERATOR

Is it an experienced restaurateur? An ex-Fortune 500 executive? Someone who has already been successful with another fast casual or QSR concept? How about a former customer or employee? The answer is “yes” to all of the above. Our franchisees are a diverse group of individuals with something in common: they have embraced the opportunity of owning a Jersey Mike’s and serving our delicious, fresh sub sandwiches.

Many of our successful franchisees have some other traits in common. They are passionate about the Jersey Mike’s concept, care about their local community and recognize the value of a proven system. They are confident, competitive, outgoing and have a positive attitude about business and life. Most of our owners have restaurant experience, but certainly not all. These less tangible traits are critical to our success.

In 2014, I joined Jersey Mike's in Nashville, attracted by its growing reputation. Over time, I dedicated myself completely to the brand and embraced its culture of mutual success. In 2019, I purchased my first location, and today I proudly own and operate four stores with more on the horizon. I now oversee 60+ locations across ten states. This journey wouldn't have been possible with any other brand. Keep your head up, hustle, embody our values, and watch your dreams come true – I'm living proof! 2020.

On July 1, 2011, I started my Jersey Mike’s journey in Sterling Virginia. By October 2011, I joined the Management in Training program and I was promoted to General Manager of Jersey Mike’s Gaithersburg, MD location. After about 4 years of operating stores, Gordon Pannill and I teamed up. We signed a 5-unit development agreement in Southwest Virginia. We now have 6 stores open and several in development. The reason Gordon and I have had success in ownership is that we both started as crew members and worked our way through the system. I thoroughly enjoy providing great customer service and multiplying stores as a franchisee. Furthermore, my passion for the Jersey Mike’s brand continues to grow daily!

Jersey Mike’s St. Anthony, my hometown, was my very first job. I worked my way up. Peter came to visit with a conversation about owning my own store, and immediately I was all in. I won Manager of the Year in Minnesota in 2019. That summer, I went back home to Jeff Berns and John Griparis’ franchise to partner with them as an owner in their 3 stores along with Ben. In 2020, I got to be a part of the Minnesota Field Team and become a business partner. With a combined 18 years in the brand, Ben and I got engaged and took the step of owning stores ourselves! Now married, we bought a store, our dream store, back where it all started, St. Anthony! We have a total of 3 stores now. We hope to continue with our store count and partner with our people the same way we were taught by Jeff and John.

As a first-generation Salvadorian-American born and raised in Southern CA, I began working for Jersey Mike’s in 2014. Even though I was hired for a marketing position, I found myself behind the front line and quickly became proficient in each respective position. Within a year, I began managing multiple Jersey Mike’s locations. In that same year I attended the Phase 2 Leadership Experience. The impact of the course and Coach Hughes inspired me tremendously. In 2020 ownership came my way and I finally opened the doors in sunny Long Beach, California. I continue to pay forward the energy, time, and knowledge my mentors instilled in me by developing and mentoring the next generation of leaders within Jersey Mike’s.

I started at Jersey Mike’s at the age of 16. I was terrible but my mgr always encouraged me to keep trying and I stuck with it. Within a few years I was promoted to shift leader, then to assistant manager. In 2005, I met Brenda Smith who coached me and taught me how to work smart. Within a year, I became the GM! Then there was Frank Czaszynski. I had a lot to learn and luckily, he was ready to teach me. Before long, I moved to Houston TX to lead the market and a store came up for sale and I became the new owner. This was everything I had been working for over the past 15 years. Since then, I have been able to purchase several stores with more to come. Hopefully I can pass along the opportunity given to me by our amazing company. Forever grateful!

I had been a stay-at-home mom for my daughter’s early years. My dad asked me, “Why don’t you work with your brothers at Jersey Mike’s?”. I decided to take a leap of faith, training as a crew member and we would see what happens. Here we are 5 years later, with 9 stores and I am their District Manager, overseeing 5 of them. The journey I’ve had has been AMAZING. This is the kind of job that cares about the impact we make on people every day. The journey continues to be an amazing experience with the people I get to meet and work with every day. I am so grateful for Jersey Mike’s and those that have invested so much time in me, I promise to give back and make everyone proud!

After graduating from Salisbury U in 2008 I met with Sean Schoonover and Danny Malamis to discuss an opportunity with Jersey Mike’s. My biggest takeaway from our conversation centered around growth and opportunities. I served in various roles from director of franchise support to Vice President for Team Washington. I was able to learn so much from working with team members, franchisees, and the corporate team. In 2021, I departed from Team Washington to pursue my journey as an owner and formed Opportunities Restaurant Group. Now it is about developing my team/bench. The goal is to provide others with the same opportunities that I was presented with. I am very fortunate to be a part of such an amazing brand!

We both started out at Jersey Mike’s in Colorado Springs, CO for Tim Holliday and Nathan Rose. In 2019 we attend the Walter Bond conference in Denver. Peter Cancro mentioned the Rod Smith program, after much conversation, he asked us if we'd like to be recipients. There was something important we remembered from Walter Bond's speech that night, never pass up an opportunity. A few months later we moved to Wisconsin. Eager to continue making subs, we joined the Corporate Field Team. The next year we spent quality time learning operations, training, and grand openings, which helped us in opening our own store. May 2021 we finally opened in West Bend, Wisconsin! The opportunity Peter gave us that night in Denver is something we are forever grateful for and something we hope to pass along to our team one day. Just 2 years later, we're getting ready to open store number 2 and couldn't be happier!

I started working at Jersey Mike's as a part timer in 2015. The following year, Corporate took over the store I was working at and I started really learning more about the business. I made sure I was always 30 minutes early just to get extra coaching and training. Then I met John Enterline. John always stated, “stay ready so you don't have to get ready”. I took that and ran with it. In 2019, I was honored to receive the Rod Smith award by Peter. I was nervous but most of all excited and ready to continue to work hard and make delicious subs. Dedicated and loyal, I will never forget what I was taught or how I got here. Thank you, Peter, John and the entire Jersey Mike's Family for believing in me when no one else did! Forever grateful!

I started part time with Jersey Mike’s in the Howell NJ store. I was always shy, but Jersey Mike’s has taught me to share your life with the customer and I really took to that. Mike Manzo said “take care of your front door and everything will be alright”. My JM journey started began. I was invited to travel the country to help open stores; became an Area Director in NC; back to NJ in the Operations Dept.; became 1 of 3 regional VPs, and currently back to an Area Director role for VA, NC, and WV. I’ve partnered up with Andy Curde and in 2015 we purchased our first store together. Currently I have 16 open with more to come. Jersey Mike's does change lives and I am living proof of that. It’s been a fun 25 years, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.

I started with Jersey Mike’s as a 17-year-old in 2013 as my first job. I expressed to Mark Michalak, franchisee, that I love this job and I would love to work my way up to GM. I didn’t waste any time and worked my up from crew member, shift lead and Assistant GM. In 2015, I achieved my goal, earning the GM position at the Lake Zurich, IL location. In 2020, I surpassed my dream of being a GM and bought into ownership. After almost a decade of making subs, I married my best friend and former Jersey Mike’s employee with the wedding officiated by none other than the Director of Operations, Gary George! Hard work and the Jersey Mike’s culture allows GMs to take control of their careers and ownership of their future. Jmikes for life!

Growing up with five siblings and my mother who was also an immigrant, I needed a job and stumbled upon Jersey Mike's in Rocklin, CA. I went from a Crew Member, Shift Lead, Assistant Manager, Manager to eventually Dir of Operations in a matter of 4 yrs. I love being a part of the culture of Jersey Mike's and being able to give back to my community. I was invited to a meeting with Peter Cancro in San Francisco. He informed me that I was a recipient of the Rod Smith award, and I would be receiving my very own store! Fast forward, I am the proud owner of the Citrus Heights, CA location! Hard work really does pay off & I’m proof. I ran every store like it was my own, never imagining the possibility of that becoming a reality & now here it is!
