With Grand Opening in Long Beach, Jersey Mike's Counts 30th Store in California
Company's Growth in The Golden State Continues to Accelerate In Celebration, Funds Raised For St. Mary's C.A.R.E.
“We’ve always had a cult-like following on the East Coast so we are thrilled that Californians also embrace our subs,” said Peter Cancro, the company’s founder and CEO. “It turns out our authentic Northeast style subs are the perfect fit for West Coasters looking for fresh, high-quality ingredients.”
Jersey Mike’s growth in California continues to gather speed. This is the 13th Jersey Mike’s Subs unit to open in the state in the past year. In 2009, the company projects another 14 California stores will open.
The newest store, located at 1 World Trade Center, Suite 110, will hold a grand opening on March 2. It is hosting a 6-day fundraiser from Mon., March 2, through Sat., March 7, with proceeds going to St. Mary Medical Center’s Comprehensive AIDS Resources and Education Program or C.A.R.E. Anyone who has a fundraising coupon can get a free regular sub for a $1 donation to the charity. Coupons are being distributed throughout the community and in local newspapers.
“This fundraiser helps one of our neighbors doing critical work in the community,” said Burrell who is also Area Director in California for the sub chain and now owns eight units in California with Velazquez. “We invite everyone in for a visit and to help ensure St. Mary’s C.A.R.E. continues providing important medical and social services to those who need them.”
Burrell, who grew up on the Jersey Shore and was a high school football rival to Cancro, never expected to see the original store franchise but, once it did, he was determined to bring the concept to the West Coast. “We had no doubt the concept would resonate here,” said Burrell. “We believe strongly in providing the very best experience and giving back to the communities where we operate.” In January, Burrell and Velazquez also opened a unit in Arroyo Grande.
Store hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The store is closed on Sunday. You can contact this store directly at 562-491-1800.
Known for its New Jersey-style subs made “Mike’s Way” with onions, lettuce, tomatoes and a signature blend of olive oil, red wine vinegar and spices, the sub shop only uses private labeled meats and cheeses that are sliced fresh for each sandwich and piled high on in-store baked bread.
Jersey Mike’s, a sub sandwich franchise with more than 400 stores open and under development nationwide, has a long history of community involvement and support. Started at the Jersey Shore in 1956, Jersey Mike’s serves authentic Northeast style subs on fresh baked bread – the same recipe it started with over 50 years ago. The company’s mission is to bring its customers the highest quality, freshest made sub in the industry and give back to the communities in which it operates.
