Another Jersey Mike’s Subs will officially open its doors in Brick next week. Jersey Mike’s owner John Helm will celebrate with a grand opening on Wed., Dec. 17. Helm is a Point Pleasant native, home of the original Jersey Mike’s store. This is his second Jersey Mike’s store in Brick.
In honor of the grand opening, the store, located at 56 Chambers Bridge Rd. (in the Brick Plaza), is hosting a 5-day fundraiser for both Brick Township and Brick Memorial High Schools. Customers who donate $1 to either school will receive a free regular sub through Sun., Dec. 21.
“We really wanted to support both high schools, so we decided to hold a fundraiser that will encourage a friendly rivalry,” Helm said. “There will be one donation box for Brick Memorial High School and another for Brick Township High School. We’ve come to know this community pretty well and it’ll be interesting to see who gives the most support.”
Reaching out to the community is a key component of Jersey Mike’s mission. All franchise owners find ways to support their neighbors and employees are encouraged to volunteer their time and talents as well.
Helm has always tried to support community youth and likes to hire local high school students who show initiative and team spirit, an opportunity he first recognized when he coached high school basketball in Point Pleasant.
“John Helm is a local son. He understands this community and being a productive part of it comes naturally,” said Peter Cancro, founder and CEO of Jersey Mike’s Franchise Systems. “Just as important, he was a college basketball player (at Wheaton College, Chicago) and a high school coach and he appreciates that teamwork and a winning attitude will help his business and benefit the community. We are thrilled John is opening a second store in Brick and wish him every success.”
Store hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week. You can contact this store directly at (732) 477-5700.
“Being from Point Pleasant, I grew up on Jersey Mike’s subs and I’ve always wanted to own my own business, so operating two local Jersey Mike’s stores has been a perfect fit,” Helm said. He and his wife, Stephanie, have two children, J.J. (2) and Ryan (4 mos.). Helm opened his first Jersey Mike’s store in Brick in March 2005. It is located at 602 Mantoloking Rd.
Jersey Mike’s, a sub sandwich franchise with more than 400 stores open and under development nationwide, has a long history of community involvement and support.
