Jersey Mike’s Subs, known for its fresh sliced/fresh grilled Jersey Shore-style subs, officially opened its doors in Mount Airy on December 18. Franchise owner Nicholas Sargent held a grand opening and free sub fundraiser from Wednesday, December 18 to Sunday, December 22 to support the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Department.
To commemorate the event, the new restaurant, located at 413 E. Ridgeville Boulevard, hosted a 5-day fundraiser with proceeds supporting the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Department. Anyone who had a fundraising coupon received a free regular sub for a minimum $1 contribution. Ten thousand coupons were distributed throughout the community.
Started at the Jersey Shore in 1956, Jersey Mike's continued its steady growth in 2012 opening 92 new restaurants throughout the country, a 33 percent increase in new store growth over 2011.

“My first job in high school was working for a Jersey Mike’s in North Carolina,” said Sargent. “At a young age, Jersey Mike’s taught me about work ethic and what it takes to run a successful business. Naturally, this opportunity to open my own shop helps bring my experience full circle. I am excited to be bringing the Jersey Mike’s brand to Mount Airy and although we haven’t even opened our doors yet, this community is already embracing us with open arms.”
Sargent added, “As a part of our grand opening we will be raising money for the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Department. The continual funding of our local volunteer firefighters is of great importance and promotes the safety and well-being of our community. I am grateful for this outlet to give back to such a worthy and brave organization and I am thankful to those members of the community who will come out and show their support.”
