Jersey Mike’s Subs contributes $2,000 to Central Virginia Community College

Jersey Mike's Subs, located at 3919 Wards Road, opened its doors on April 16, 2008. Investing time to learn more about the community, franchise owner, Scott Buckner, heard about the Central Virginia Community College (CVCC) Education Fund and liked that it meshed with Jersey Mike's passion of "making a difference in someone's life."

Discovering that a $2,000 contribution would pay for one person to attend a semester at CVCC, the Lynchburg Jersey Mike's team decided to make it a fundraising goal in conjunction with their Grand Opening. According to Buckner, "we felt that education was an important cause and that everyone around the community would be happy to join in and help support it." To achieve the goal, the restaurant ran a special promotion where $1 of each sub would go toward the fund - raising $1,402. Then, the staff contributed their tips for five days and Scott Buckner provided the balance personally to round the gift up to an even $2,000.

"There are many things that have been fulfilling in the short time I have been in business," said Buckner."What we hear most is 'finally a real Jersey Sub in Lynchburg'; 'I haven't had a sub that good since I moved from New Jersey';and, 'this is the best sub I have ever had.' To sum it up, I would say that I have really enjoyed seeing the effect that authentic quality subs, engaging customer service, and being a good neighbor can have on a community," shared Buckner.

From coast to coast, Jersey Mike's Franchisees fulfill the 50-year mission of making "the" best sub sandwich and being a philanthropic partner in the communities they serve. It all began in 1956 with a single neighborhood shop in Point Pleasant, NJ dedicated to serving authentic subs.
