Jersey Mike’s Subs Celebrates Opening of 50th Location in L.a. Area

Free Subs with Donation to Hollywood High

Jersey Mike’s Subs opened its 50th store in the Los Angeles area in Hollywood, celebrating with a fundraiser to benefit Hollywood High School.  The East Coast-style sub sandwich shop, with a rapidly growing following on the West Coast, opened its first California store in 2003 in Camarillo and now has 27 individual storeowners employing nearly 600 team members in the L.A. area.

This latest store is the third for Jersey Mike’s owner and former TV producer and agent Lloyd Weintraub.  To commemorate grand opening, the new restaurant, located at 1517 Vine St. (just north of Sunset Boulevard), hosted a 5-day fundraiser from Wed., April 20 through Sun., April 24, with proceeds supporting Hollywood High School.  Anyone who had a fundraising coupon received a free regular size sub with a minimum $1 contribution.  More than 10,000 coupons were distributed throughout the community.

"As I stand in front of my store at Sunset & Vine in Hollywood, looking down at the Stars with their names imprinted on the sidewalk, I cannot imagine a more appropriate fundraising recipient for our opening, than the Performance Arts Program of Hollywood High School,” said Weintraub, who also owns stores in West Hollywood and Northridge.  “No school in the country has amassed such a high profile list of graduates and talent."

Reaching out to the community is a key component of Jersey Mike's mission.  All franchise owners find ways to support their neighbors and employees are encouraged to volunteer their time and talents as well.

“Lloyd’s commitment to the youth of Hollywood is a solid example of our mission to make a difference one sub at a time," said Peter Cancro, founder and CEO of Jersey Mike's Franchise Systems.  "Eight years ago, Dan Burrell, our L.A. area director and a former high school football rival of mine, convinced me that Californians would love the freshness of our subs sliced right in front of their eyes.  Opening this Hollywood Jersey Mike’s store, our 50th in the area, indicates he was right.”

Weintraub added: “It's as if I've come full circle. I started as a young actor in New York, transitioned to an agent for stage & film actors, and came to Los Angeles where I eventually learned to be a producer.  Now, in my second career as a Jersey Mikes Franchisee, I am so happy to open my third store and be associated with so many young adults who have dreams and aspirations that I can relate to."

Store hours are from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 10 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.  You can contact this store directly at 323-461-6161.
