Jersey Mike's teamed up with inspirational golf phenomenon Dennis Walters and The First Tee of Los Angeles as part of the national sub shop's program to drive a message of hope to thousands of underprivileged children throughout the country as it has for more than a decade.  This is one of 12 events the company is sponsoring this spring and summer.

More than 200 children attended The Dennis Walters Golf Show, on Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at the Whittier Narrows Golf Club in Rosemead, home of The First Tee of L.A.  A special appearance made by Lakers legend and NBA Hall of Fame member, Jerry West.  Jersey Mike's provided lunch for all the attendees.

Walters, who became a trick-shot golfer after an accident left him paralyzed from the waist down, will share his personal story about the challenges he's had to overcome as well as perform amazing trick shots with clubs made from a fishing rod, a crutch, a radiator hose and a cell phone. Walters' repertoire also includes shots hit blindfolded, through fire and with an egg balanced on the ball.  He will be joined by his popular canine caddy, Bucky.

"Everyone can benefit from the inspirational stories of others who have overcome obstacles to achieve their dreams," said Jersey Mike's Founder and CEO Peter Cancro.  "That's what this program is all about and we believe in the message of hope these kids will come away with when they listen to Dennis."

Cancro founded Jersey Mike's when he was just 17 years old and he credits an important mentor, his football coach, for believing in him and supporting his dreams. Today, Jersey Mike's has more than 475 locations open and in-development nationwide, and the company remains committed to making a difference in the communities it serves. Last year, the franchise group raised more than $250,000 in contributions and distributed more than 75,000 free sub sandwiches to help different causes.

"If there is something you really want to do - no matter how impossible it may seem - with enough hard work and perseverance you can do it," said Walters, who was presented the PGA Distinguished Service Award in 2008.
