Jersey Mike's Subs and Anna's House Team Up for Eggciting Saturday - March 2010

Free Subs For Customers Bearing Easter Baskets

All 10 Central Oklahoma Jersey Mike's Subs stores will partner with The Anna's House Foundation to participate in  "Eggciting Saturday" on Sat., Mar. 27 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. to benefit children in foster care.  On that day, customers are asked to bring in an Easter Basket to receive a free regular sub.  Anna's House will distribute the baskets as a gift of love to children in the Oklahoma County foster care system.

"This cause is very near and dear to our hearts," said Scott Warfel, Jersey Mike's franchise owner and Oklahoma area director.  "Having fostered and adopted three children from the Oklahoma foster care system ourselves, my wife DeAnn and I are acutely aware of how a small thing like an Easter Basket can make a big difference for these kids who have very little to call their own -- because it tells them someone cares.  We want to encourage all our customers to help foster hope among these kids and come out on March 27 with an Easter Basket and enjoy a sub on us," he said.

The Anna's House Foundation was formed to combat the damage caused from the continually changing living environments faced by some 1,300 Oklahoma County babies and foster children under the age of four in the foster care system. The Foundation's first priority is to provide stable and loving homes for these children by improving the quality and quantity of foster care families in Oklahoma County.

The Foundation's most recent project is a community of individual homes called "The Ranch" for several Christian foster families at minimal cost to enable them to care for large families without financial concerns.  These families will be Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS) certified foster homes and will be held to the very highest standards to ensure the best possible care both short and long term.

"The Easter holiday is a great time to raise awareness about the state of foster care in Oklahoma and is a simple way for the community to provide a little bit of extra love and support for this county's foster children," said Anna's House Foundation Director Greg Harkins.  "We are grateful to the Jersey Mike's team, which has been so willing to help us out and we know we will get the generous support of its customers."

Reaching out to the community is a key component of Jersey Mike's mission. All franchise owners find ways to support their neighbors and employees are encouraged to volunteer their time and talents as well.

"Initially, Anna's House asked us simply to provide our stores as drop-off centers for their Easter Basket initiative, but our franchisee team of 10 stores saw an opportunity to do more," Warfel said.  "We are all very excited to see if we can blow the lid off this campaign with our free sub offer and the support of some of our local radio stations."

Public service announcements about the event will run seven times a day for the two weeks prior to the event on

K-LOVE and its sister station AIR1.  Both stations will be on-hand on Eggciting Saturday at the 1940 S. Air Depot Blvd., Midwest City location and the newest Oklahoma City location at 6719 North May Ave.

Faithlinks Oklahoma, an organization that links government with faith-based and community organizations to provide social services, is also reaching out to its base to support the event.

About Anna's House Foundation

Anna's House Foundation's first priority is to provide stable and loving homes for the youngest of the young in foster care.  By providing these precious little ones a solid, nurturing foundation from the beginning, they will be able to form healthy bonds with caregivers, thereby enabling them to develop healthy attachment behavior long into adulthood.

Some estimates indicate that as many as 70 percent of the American children suffering from some type of attachment disorder today are children in the foster system.  This can lead to lifelong issues of destructive behavior and an inability to form healthy relationships into adulthood.   The Anna's House Foundation strives to make a difference for these kids by working hard to combat these statistics with love, nurture and consistent care within a caring community of families.  For more information go to www.annashousefoundation.org
