The people at Jersey Mike's like to make sure every customer leaves with a smile on their face, even if they come in without one.

"We usually do whatever it takes," manager Daniel Zimmerman said.

The restaurant that brought Jersey Shore subs to its fifth location in Arizona has now been open for one month in Ahwatukee, at 4605 E. Chandler Blvd. Decorated with an inviting beach theme and with employees shouting, "Hot sub!" every time one is ordered, Zimmerman said the restaurant keeps things interesting for its customers.

"We just like to keep it fresh and get everybody involved with it too," he said. "It makes it kind of more entertaining for the line."

Zimmerman said everything used to make the sandwiches is used fresh every morning, including the most popular item on the menu, the original Italian. It's layered with slices of provolone, ham, prosciuttini, cappacuolo, salami and pepperoni. Ordering it "Mike's Way" gets you onions, lettuce, tomatoes, red wine, vinegar, olive oil blend and spices.

Zimmerman also said each Jersey Mike's location likes to get involved in the community. In their first week in business, the restaurant held a fundraiser for Lion Heart Marching Band, offering a free regular sub with a $1 donation. Tuesday they presented $1,952 to the school.
