Jersey Mike's Owners Raise $7,609 For Foodbank

A month-long fundraiser at all the Jersey Mike’s Subs Shops in Ocean and Monmouth County proved quite successful in the region’s battle against hunger.

Storeowners raised $7,609 for the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean County by donating $1 to the FoodBank for every large #13 sub and 50 cents for every regular #13 they sold throughout the month of May. This is a crucial time for children in need because soon they will not receive the school lunch they have learned to depend on. The #13, Jersey Mike’s signature sandwich, is an authentic Northeast Italian style sub piled high with fresh sliced meats and cheeses, and then finished off Mike’s Way with onions, lettuce, tomatoes, red wine vinegar, olive oil blend and spices. Jersey Mike’s storeowners presented the check at  FoodBank warehouse, 3300 Route 66, Neptune, on Thursday, June 7.

“The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean County plays a vital role in assuring that the children of our region and their families never go hungry,” said Jersey Mike’s President Peter Cancro. “I am very proud of the owners of our hometown stores for teaming up to help fight hunger in our own community.”

The FoodBank distributes over 3 million pounds of food a year to the hungry through its 275 feeding programs in Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Almost 70,000 people are served each year, including 19,000 children. The FoodBank believes no one should go hungry in America. Their primary activity is to collect and distribute donated and surplus food for those in immediate need. The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties is located in Neptune, New Jersey.
