Wipe Out Kids' Cancer Featured on Jersey Mike's Cups Nationwide
January 20, 2014 • Dallas, TX
Jersey Mike’s Subs, known for its fresh sliced/fresh grilled Jersey Shore-style subs, has recognized Dallas-based Wipe Out Kids’ Cancer (WOKC) as one of 14 charities featured on its beverage cups nationwide. With the generous help of their customers, 19 Jersey Mike’s locations in the Dallas/Fort Worth area raised $100,000 for WOKC during Jersey Mike’s 2013 March “Month of Giving,” making it one of the top fundraisers among 86 local charities in the nationwide campaign.
Jersey Mike’s special cup messages are designed to educate and inspire customers nationwide while boosting the visibility of deserving non-profit organizations. Each cup story appears more than 1.35 million times throughout the country and features the statement “Giving…Making a difference in someone’s life,” a sentiment that Jersey Mike’s takes to heart. Since 2010, locations throughout the country have raised nearly $7.5 million for worthy local charities and distributed more than 600,000 free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes.
Led by Dalton Stewart, Jersey Mike’s Dallas/Fort Worth area director and franchisee, the local Jersey Mike’s will again raise funds for WOKC in 2014 during the national March “Month of Giving” campaign. This market’s efforts on behalf of WOKC were a key inspiration for the national Jersey Mike’s “Month of Giving” campaign.
“It is not often a non-profit finds a corporation who becomes so passionate about their cause that they want to partner and help fulfill the mission,” said Evelyn Costolo, Wipe Out Kids’ Cancer CEO. “Dalton Stewart and Jersey Mike's of Dallas/Fort Worth have taken on our mission of a day when all children are living cancer free and get to work each year in the month of March raising money to fight this awful disease that touches 1 in every 330 children in America. Wipe Out Kids' Cancer is blessed to have Jersey Mike's.”
The story of Jersey Mike’s partnership with WOKC goes back to 2009 when Mary Dowling, WOKC advisory board member, introduced Dalton Stewart to WOKC’s founder Cindy Brinker who was looking to expand her charity nationwide. With the enthusiastic support of Jersey Mike’s founder and CEO Peter Cancro, Stewart developed a fundraising campaign that together with the March “Month of Giving Campaign” has raised more than $350,000 for the charity to date.
“What Jersey Mike’s has done for WOKC cannot be measured in dollars or cents,” said Brinker. “We have been able to generate more favorable, optimal awareness for our cause and the money raised helped us initially expand our funding outside of Dallas with grants to Cook Children’s in Fort Worth. Our Jersey Mike’s partnership and its ensuing success have played a vital role in WOKC now providing important funding to critical research initiatives on a national basis.”
Jersey Mike’s, a fast-casual sub sandwich franchise with more than 1,000 locations open and under development nationwide, has a long history of community involvement and support. Jersey Mike's serves up an authentic taste of the Jersey Shore, with fresh sliced subs on fresh baked bread – the same recipe it started with in 1956. The company’s mission is to bring its customers the highest quality, freshest made sub in the industry and give back to the communities in which it operates.
