Jersey Mike's Subs Opens 17th Location in San Diego Market
Owners Celebrate Grand Opening with Free Subs

Jersey Mike’s Subs, known for its fresh sliced/fresh grilled East Coast-style subs, opened a new San Diego area location in Poway on May 1. Franchise owners Steve Leonard and Fred Downey held a grand opening and free sub fundraiser from Wednesday, May 1 to Sunday, May 5 to support Cancer for College.
The new restaurant, located at 12285 Scripps Poway Parkway, circulated 10,000 coupons throughout the community offering a free regular sub for a minimum $1 contribution to Cancer for College.
Cancer for College was formed in 1993 by Craig Pollard as a senior project while at the USC Business School. Craig was a two-time cancer survivor and witnessed firsthand the financial impact cancer can have on a family and the hope a college education can provide to a survivor.
Started at the Jersey Shore in 1956, Jersey Mike's continued its steady growth in 2012 opening 92 new restaurants throughout the country, a 33 percent increase in new store growth over 2011.
Steve Leonard and Fred Downey exemplify Jersey Mike’s quest for excellence as it selects franchise owners who share the company's commitment to quality products and exceptional customer service and who are dedicated to giving back to the local community. Since 2010, locations throughout the country have raised almost $7 million for worthy local charities and distributed more than 500,000 free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes.

Passionate Jersey Mike's fans crave their subs made Mike's Way™ with onions, lettuce, tomatoes and a signature blend of olive oil, red wine vinegar and spices. The company uses only private labeled meats and cheeses that are sliced fresh for each sub sandwich and piled high on in-store baked bread. Everything is quickly made to order for each customer, just the way the first subs were made at the original Jersey Mike's more than fifty years ago. The Jersey Mike’s experience always includes its trademark neighborly banter served up by a high-energy Jersey Mike’s team.
This is Steve Leonard and Fred Downey’s fourth Jersey Mike’s location. In August 2010, they opened their first Jersey Mike’s in San Marcos. They also own a location in San Diego which opened in July 2011 and one in Escondido which opened in February 2012.
