There’s new sub shop in Coon Rapids.
“We are excited to be part of the community,” said Jeff Berns, one of the business’ co-owners.
In fact, getting involved in the community is an important component of the Jersey Mike’s Subs franchise, Berns said.
Prior to its grand opening, thousands of free sub coupons were passed out throughout the community. In return for the free subs, those with the cards were asked to donate $1 to one of four local schools.
Those benefiting from the grand opening fund-raiser were Anoka Middle School for the Arts, Coon Rapids High School, Coon Rapids Middle School and Sand Creek Elementary School.
Future fund-raisers for local schools are also in the works, Berns said.
This is third Jersey Mike’s Subs store in Minnesota. Berns and co-owner John Griparis also own stores in St. Anthony and Mankato. The pair also own eight stores in Illinois.
Berns said what makes Jersey Mike’s unique is that everything is sliced fresh on site, including the meat and cheese, which is sliced to order.
The original Jersey Mike’s opened in 1953 and now includes 530 stores in 31 states.
“We just focus on what we do really well,” Berns said.
